I found this interesting. I just don't have the desire to hit the gym on the first day of my cycle. First day is rough but after that, I'm good.
Here's the read:
Do women have less muscle power during their periods? Not likely, say researchers from Karolinska Hospital's section of Sports Medicine in Stockhom, Sweden.
The researchers studied 15 moderately active women in their mid 20's during two consecutive menstrual cycles. Hormone level in blood and urine were used to verify which of the three phases of the menstrual cycle the women were in : early follicular, ovulation or midluteal. Test of strength and muscular endurance were performed during each phase, and no variations were detected. These finding are suported by a similar study conducted on 19 women over three menstrual cycles.
So, if you're feeling sub-par on the bench press, perhaps you haven't eaten enough or you didn't get enough sleep; whatever it is, you probably can't pin it on your period.
